In 637 CE the Tang Emperor Taizong decides to select his concubines in the whole country. Mei-niang, who is still a teenage girl, is among those waiting to be chosen. The Emperor, accompanied by his subjects and concubines, finally fixes his eye on a lovely and beautiful young girl. The girl’s life begins to be totally changed.
